Syyn Labs at Glow
Two years ago my wife and I went down to Santa Monica to check out the Glow festival. It was a lot of fun, with light themed artworks scattered around the Santa Monica Pier.
We decided to attend the second festival last night. Logistics (parking) wa s the chief worry, so I decided to pack my bike in the car, drop off my wife and nephew and go search for a parking spot. Kind of a nightmare, but finally found something, biked back to meet the two and went on the grand tour.
A lot more exhibits than the first one. bad news for me was a lot were video installations, which just don't click with me.
The most fun was this DNA spiral by a group called Syyn Labs. Very similar to the Cubitron at Burning Man. Hundreds of LED filled ping pong balls all controlled by a computer.
A good and innovative group at Syyn Labs. Check them out.
This is a poor (no tripod) video of the work. My arty contribution was to rack the focus in and out. I just don't do good video. No instincts.
Oh, we three also wore pieces of old Burning Man costumes that I built. Quite a hit, many people posing with us and taking our pictures. Even a bride and groom from a wedding party.
One of these days I will have to brag post my old costumes on Flickr. They are very good.
Cheers.
