Dot Stop
This is nothing really new as far as the subject but it was an experiment that I wanted to try. I changed the color stop for the schlieren system by painting a little dot in the center. If I had the dot perfectly the same size as my source (a small hole that emits light) it would completely block the source light and give a black background.
As you can see my dot is a little small so some color is leaking out, you can see the green/blue and red on the edges. But for a guess it's pretty good. It also gives some really stark contrast.
I was also watching the stop for the first time today (usually to busy watching other parts of the set-up and I could see the light that was over-deflected by the propane torch dancing outside the margins of the stop. It's kind of pretty.
Cheers.
