Ford 7Y Saloon at Quorn and Woodhouse, Great Central Railway

The little Ford 7Y cost about £100 in 1939. It had a 933cc side valve engine developing 26 bhp, and a 3-speed gearbox. The first family car that I remember was the predecessor to the 7Y, the Model Y or Baby Ford. These cars were known for their terrifyingly ineffective brakes, a fact of which we, as children, were blissfully unaware!
