A South Seas Tropical Isle it is! Boracay, Balabag, Malay, Philippines

Have come to the isle of Boracay in the middle of the Philippines just to the north of Panay, and am 'wired' again (will be working 'off' my flickr backlog!).

Yes, this is a 'tourist' destination but even though the island is small (about 11 by 2 km), you can easily get away from the highly popular, 'international' section White Beach with very large numbers of especially Korean and Japanese holiday makers but also from 'mainland' China.. Busy though it is, people are relatively laid-back, and the views are stunning, as this picture demonstrates.

This photo was shot just as the Typhoon Chedeng was preparing for the monsoons to arrive. Indeed, yesterday and today have been rainy... But not enough to preclude nice walks...

Incidentally, this photo shows, too, the high regard the island authorities have for a good waste-disposal system at least at White Sands (with three color-coded trashers in the foreground which give some 'foundation' to the preservation of natural beauty in a touristic environment). In the near distance - a couple of kms away - are the hills of the far larger island of Panay, called 'the mainland' on Boracay.
