Tinily Nutritious. Lycopus europaeus, European Water-horehound, and Red-cylindered Parasitical Fly, Cylindromyia bicolor, Our Pond, Venlo, The Netherlands

It's the season for our pond to be almost overgrown by European Water-horehound with its clusters of very tiny flowers stem-round. My eyes can't but Omy! gives a sharp view of them. Here's a flower providing nutrients to a Red-cylindered Tachinid Fly. Until a decade or so ago - 2011 - these flies were unknown to this area. Then their northernmost range was Baden-Württemberg, Germany, but climate change has allowed them now to move as far north as Limburg and Gelderland.
