Heroine of Peru. Amazilia amazilis, Amazilia Hummingbird, Miraflores, Lima, Peru
Jean-François Marmontel (1723-1799) in 1777 published a book, Les Incas, ou la destruction de l'Empire du Perou. The Inca heroine in that story is Amazili. This Hummingbird - a fledgling, I think - was named for her. I saw it foraging as I was walking on the path on top of the cliffs near San Isidro. It's partaking of an exotic from South Africa, a Tecomaria capensis, the Cape Honeysuckle.
