Nutritious Umbel. Scatophaga stercoraria, Yellow Dungfly, and Philhelius pedissequum, Lemon-banded Hoverfly, on Heracleum sphondylium, Commmon Hogweed, Océ-weerd, Meuse Corridor, Venlo, The Netherlands
A short interlude with a bit of Sun drew me out to a stand of Hogweed along the Meuse River. A beautful white umbel hosted a couple of insects that I don't want to keep from you. At the top is a sun-loving Lemon-banded Hoverfly that until about a decade ago was known as a Xanthogramma but now goes by Philhelius. Below is a young Yellow Dungfly. It's perhaps fitting for this field with a herd of wild-ranging cattle.
