World Encompassing. Pelargonium peltatum, Ivy-Leaved Pelargonium, Hortus Botanicus, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
One of my favorite palms in the Palm Conservatory of the Hortus is the Feather Palm also called Licuri Palm from northeastern Brazil. 'Licuri' is etymologically derived from the Tupì word spelled variously as 'ouricuy' 'uricury' etc. Its history is now leading me astray from describing the pretty 'Geranium' in today's photo. 'Geranium peltatum' is what great Linnaeus called it. Of course, it hails from southern Africa. Since then these geraniums have been renamed to 'Pelargonium', hence the English Ivy-Leaved Pelargonium. Its flowers encircle the trunk or stem of that Feather Palm.
