Gold on Golden. Anthophora plumipes, Hairy-Footed Flower Bee, on Dark Dahlia, Renkum-Heelsum, The Netherlands

Among historians of prehistory, Renkum is noted for its so-called 'Celtic Fields', ancient agricultural field systems. I have no idea whether they hosted flower beds and such. Regardless, the towns of Renkum and Heelsum today have many pleasant streetside flowerpatches, In one of them - with a profusion of Dahlias - I saw this pretty dark or even obsidian cultivar of the Orchid Variety. The 'Honka', as it is called, was first registered in 1990 by J. Arthur 'Archie' Kieffer (1921-2015) of Elmira, NY. It's one of more than 20,000 varieties of Dahlias.

Here its Golden Heart is being visited by a Gold Autumn Hairy-Footed Flower Bee.
