Hairy Affair. Spiderwort, Tradescantia cerinthoides variegata 'Anouk', Hortus Botanicus, Leiden, The Netherlands

The naming and exact provenance of this pretty Spiderwort coming into bloom has been something of a complicated affair. As far as I understand it's now been resolved. If you're interested here's a good account of the controversy (tradescantia.uk/article/the-nanouk-controversy/#nanouk-pa...). A shorter description of our plant's taxonomy is: tradescantia.uk/cultivar/tra-nanouk/.

'Tradescantia' is for John Tradescant (the Elder) (1567-1638) and his son, also John (1608-1662), well-known plant collectors and royal gardeners. They are the founding fathers of the famous Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England.
