On White. Sphaerophoria scripta, Long Hoverfly, on Hoary Alyssum, Berteroa incana, Océ-weerd, Meuse Corridor, Venlo, The Netherlands

It is said that Hoary Alyssum was 'imported' into western Europe from 'the East' with grain shipments in the 18th century. It's first mentioned in The Netherlands in 1835. Lots of these plants along the Meuse River, especially along its south-eastern flow.

This pretty white flower is a favorite for many insects but I haven't often seen it welcoming Long Hoverfly. Many of these insects here in early Autumn in the bright late Sun.
