Red and Yellow Claws. Heliconia psittacorum, Lobster Claw, and Stingless Bee, Tetragonula laeviceps, KLCC Park, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
In the late '50s of the last century, Jesús Santiago Moure (1912-2010) of Brazil, exasperated at the confusion in the naming ot Trigona Bees, instituted a new grouping: Tetragonula. They're wonderul, tiny stingless bees. That means that their ovipositors are not sufficiently robust to pierce human skins. Obviously they function in every other way especially in positioning their eggs. Here in the inset is one probably collecting moisture or something 'oily' from the flower of a Lobster Claw, Heliconia psittacorum.
