Confluence. Jamek Mosque, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Here's the confluence (Kuala) of the Gombak River (on the left) and the Klang from where their muddy (Lumpur) waters flow together to the Straits of Malacca. In the nineteenth century there was a muslim cemetery here but the British colonial authorities of Malaya designated the area for a mosque. In 1908 ground was broken and a building arose to the design and specifications of Arthur Benison Hubbach (1871-1948), head archictect of the Federal Malay State. His Mughal-Ecclectic architecture can be seen all over Malaysia, and one of its beautiful examples is this now nicely restored mosque. Iconic it is for this city.
