In Nature's Garden. Merodon equestris, Narcissus Bulb Fly, on False Dandelion, Hypochaeris radicata, Our Lawn, Venlo, The Netherlands
Nature's having its way in our Garden. We decided to let it run wild and there's been a grand succession of a variety of wild flowers. Now above the lowly wild geraniums wave the long and gracious stems of Fake Dandelion, Hypochaeris radicata. Its bright yellow flowers attract lots of insects.
Here's Merodon equestris, Narcissus Bulb Fly, speckled with pollen, eating its fill. A couple of years ago I posted our Fly foraging on a Daisy (www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/27412307710/in/photoli...).
