Orange in the Meadow. Orange Tip Butterfly, Anthocaris cardamines, Gaasperpark, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
I'd gone to the Gaasperpark to look for Orange Tips. Some of the meadows have lots of Cuckoo Flowers, Cardamine pratensis, their favorite habitat. But nothing to be seen either of pristine white females nor of orange-tipped males. Another meadow, though, with no Cuckoo Flowers even nearby, was hosting a single male in the grass. Curious, that. Mostly males prefer the wooded edges of meadows from where to pounce on sunlight loving females fluttering in the breeze.
