Lush. Jesuit Tapestry: The Flight to Egypt, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Luxembourg, Luxembourg

In the gray weather we visited the Cathedral of Luxembourg. Mostly I don't post photos of works of art but let this be an exception.

I was drawn to the Lush Tropical scene of this tapestry. The very fine hanging shows the rich natural environment of the Egyptian Nile. You have to look sharply in the left corner to see that the depicted story is actually that of the flight of Jesus and his family to Egypt (Gospel of St Matthew 2, 13-15). Perhaps in the distance (just centre right on the hillside) is the house where they're heading. But just look at all those plants of various kinds! and I see a parrot as well.

This tapestry dates from the time of the Jesuits. They built this church between 1613 and 1621 and were purged from Luxembourg in 1773. I haven't been able to find any other information about this grand piece of weaving art.
