Bright Winter Lights. Chinese Lantern, Physalis alkekengi, Shaffy's Tuin, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
In the drabness of Winter these Chinese Lanterns in Shaffy's Garden. The plant doesn't hail from China but one can imagine why it's called Chinese Lantern Plant with reference to its fruits.
I tried to discover when that term was first used in English to describe our plant, but even the fine OED couldn't help out. Anyone out there in Flickrland know? Do tell me!
