Lapping Nectar. Marmalade Hoverfly, Episyrphus balteatus, on Euphorbia milii, Crown of Thorns, Hortus Botanicus, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

It's been very windy, dark and rainy here, but not really very cold. So I spent most of my time in the Hortus in the desert glass house looking at Euphorbias.

Here on Crown of Thorns is one of those all-pervasive wonderful Marmalade Hoverflies. It's not after pollen but lapping sweets directly from Flower's nectar glands.
