Autumn Beauty. Hoverfly, Syrphus vitripennis, on Hybrid Anemone, De Nieuwe Ooster, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
A sunny Autumn day, and I went to walk in De Nieuwe Ooster, Amsterdam's largest cemetery. I didn't go to visit tombstones - although of course I saw a good many... (and T.S. Eliot's line popped into my head 'I had not thought death had undone so many', although he's referring to the living crowd flowing over London Bridge and not to the resting dead).
But I went to admire the arboretum that the cemetery is as well. And the trees - like the grave markers - are labeled, too. Lots of flower beds...
Here on a Hybrid Anemone, Anemone hupehensis var. japonica, is a wonderful Hoverfly, Syrphus vitripennis.
