The Bird Boy. Mycteria ibis, Homo sapiens telephonandus and an Ordinary Pelican, Taman Burung, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Though cell phones are ubiquitous in Asia and especially so in cities such as Kuala Lumpur, they are never really intrusive. Conversations are mostly in low tones, and much of the communication is done by 'texting' or sms. Public transport is thus often curiously quiet compared to where I live. Still: human beings apparently always have to be in touch, have to have the possibility of being 'telephoned'.
This keeper of the birds in the Taman Burung, the extensive Bird Park, of Kuala Lumpur is no exception. The Yellow-Billed Storks, an Ordinary Pelican... they gather round for their food as he's perched on his pelican garbage bin communicating with the World.
I didn't want to come closer for this snapshot for fear of disturbing him from his vantage point. It's so hard to photograph humans and birds well. Cap off to those of you who do such good jobs!
