Westward to Bali. Sunset at Puri Mas, Mangsit, Lombok, Indonesia

Torrential rains on Lombok, Indonesia, this weekend. But the evening of the opening of a new wing of the Puri Mas hotel at Mangsit - though threatening rain - was splendid.

The high tide splashed its waves appropriately between the statues of Raja and Rani - the Hindu Frog Gods to whom offering is made during their marriage ceremony to ensure fruitful Monsoon rains - and of Hanuman, the Monkey King whose teacher was Surya, the Sun God.

In the far right of this sunset Gunung Agung, Bali's famed volcano, can just be seen. For Hindus it is the incarnation of the metaphyscial Mount Meru, which is said to be the very axis of the universe.

Whatever this mythology and legend... the evening was gorgeous! The opening was highly sucessful, and everyone was happy.

(Dear Flickr Friends: I've been having all kinds of Internet computer problems the last couple of days, and still. So please be patient when I don't reply as soon as you are used to my comments... Sorry. I hope to get things sorted out early next week when I return home.)
