Flighty. Syritta pipiens, Thick-thighed Hoverfly, on Bog Sage, Salvia uliginosa, Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur, Buenos Aires, Argentina

There are worse ways of overcoming jetlag than walking in the wonderful ecological reserve of Buenos Aires, Costanera Sur! Especially under today's bright blue sky.

Bog Sage - what an ugly name for this pretty plant! - was in full Autumn Flower. Salvia uliginosa is native to this region. Its visitor isn't. Syritta pipiens, Thick-thighed Hoverly, is European but somehow made it to South America. Regardless, it's apparently at home here and finds succor in Salvia's sky-blue flowers.
