Flitter. Andrena sp., Mining Bee, on Common Knapweed, Centaurea jacea, Océ-weerd, Meuse Corridor, Venlo, The Netherlands
A dry early-summer day and I walked northward along the Meuse River to my favorite secluded right-bank indented swimming place near some Willow Trees. Remarkably few insects out but the fields were full of a variety of Daisies and Thistles and Knapweed and Wild Herbs of various sorts. The air was thick with their scent; but I saw only busy Bumblebees, lots of Flies, some Hoverflies, a Grasshopper or two and a few bees. One - an Andrena of some sort - flitted nervously back and forth and back again among the pretty Knapweed heads. Here she's doing her thing. As I did mine in the soothing waters of the Meuse. She returned home as did I; but I to some Ricard.
