Superior View. The Conservatories, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore
I prefer the Singapore Botanic Gardens, but the Gardens by the Bay are fascinating in their own right. For one, the architecture and lay-out of the place are fantastic; also - though in fact more of an amusement park than a 'real' botanical garden - its large area allows for wonderful walks, even hikes. Everything is kept in tiptop shape and it's a pleasure to be here.
This is a view from the top of one of the man made Supertree Constructions in the eponymous Grove. You can see the two enormous conservatories: on the left the Flower Dome (which has among many other things a Malagasy Forest) and on the right the Cloud Forest (which contains a true, high waterfall). All the displays are tended lovingly. In the Flower Dome I was lucky to talk to some very knowledgeable and friendly Orchid tenders. Jia Hui even went out of her way to show me some of 'her' prized Masdevallias... So I could easily have stayed longer, but I wanted also to go to a museum display in the city centre on British Colonial History, 'Artist and Empire'. That's what I get for staying here only a day-and-a-half.
