Sunday Congregation. Southern Green Shield Bug, Nezara viridula, on Tanacetum vulgare, Tansy, Océ-weerd, Meuse Corridor, Venlo, The Netherlands

Autumn is upon us, and Tansy, Tanacetum vulgare, is already showing signs of the end of the year. Soon the bright yellow will give way to this ochre. Honeybees won't visit anymore, but here's a Congregation of Southern Green Shield Bug, Nezara viridula.

They're not Green because that color graces the adults. These black bugs with white, yellowish and orange spots are the third instar form. They'll grow a bit more and then go into hibernation. Spring will bring forth their True Reproductive Greenness, and the cycle will start anew.
