Timeless. Balloërveld, Gasteren, Drenthe, The Netherlands

My good naturalist friend and I went out on this marvellous but still Cold Spring Day - about 8 C. - in the hope of spotting Common European Adders - Vipera berus. This is about the time they come out to warm themselves in a windless, sunny spot near a clump of heath. So off we were to the Balloërveld, a heath and moorland to the south of Groningen in the north of Drenthe more or less between the villages of Gasteren and Rolde. This is an ancient area already inhabited by stone and iron age peoples. Today it's part of the natural heritage of The Netherlands.

Yes! we saw adders; two sleepily soaking up Sun and another quickly slipping away. But regrettably my photos didn't turn out very well. So I'll have to leave you with this Timeless View. For an Adder I photographed a couple of years ago in this very spot: www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/7010883469/in/photolis...
