kite cam Carm 31/52
Taken with a point-and-shoot suspended from a kite. This was a fun experiment, and I'm so pleased to have a few photos of the three of us (which is kind of rare) at one of our favorite locations.
There are all sorts of instructions you can find on-line by googling or doing a flickr search of "Kite Aeriel Photography," including some sophisticated rigs for stabilizing, panning, and tilting your camera. I just used string and a couple of hooks that attached to the kite line. I've seen others that just used duct tape. The problem with my set up is the camera will spin quite a lot, so the photos are completely random and there's some blur. That's fun in it's own way, but having some control would also be nice.
Before sending the camera aloft, we recorded a short video with our contact info, in case we lost the camera. When I brought the kite down, the fabric where the string attached had started to tear. Maybe it was a little too windy for the weight. I won't be sending my dslr up anytime soon.
is one of my favorite kite-cam photos (take a look at the entire set for wonderfully creative photography).
