Jacob Olie photographed this scene on 21 maart 1899.

The botter, a fishing vessel typical for the Zuiderzee in the 19th and first par of the 20th century, is anchored close to the dyke at the fishing village of Durgerdam. The fisheries number OZ 2 on the bow indicates the village Oostzaan.

In the background the 'Kapel' the most significant building in the village. Next to it the local shipyard, the slipways are on the other side. Most houses were built of wood, which was the usual building material in the region.
