Bald Heads for Neptune
These kids shaved their heads for Neptune Day, the day that we commemorated crossing the equator (even though we had actually crossed it over a week earlier, before arriving in Brazil). Apparently an ancient maritime tradition, all of us "pollywogs" were initiated as "shellbacks" by having fish guts poured on us, after which we kissed 2 big dead fish and the ring of Neptune, who was actually our captain dressed in white skirts and painted green. After that, a bunch of people shaved their heads and donated their hair to Locks of Love (no, I didn't).
