Calystegia sepium (hedge bindweed), South Shore Park, Milwaukee

Hedge bindweed (scientific name Calystegia sepium) growing at the top of a rock revetment along the shore of Lake Michigan at South Shore Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Hedge bindweed a perennial vine. It is thought to be native to North America. It's often considered a weed.

The Calystegia genus is closely related to the Convolvulus genus, and in some botanical classifications systems the two are combined. Plants in both genera are known as bindweeds and morning glories; plants in the Calystegia genus are also sometimes referred to as false bindweeds.

Calystegia sepium is quite similar to field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis).

Both the Calystegia and Convolvulus genera are in the Solanales order and the Convolvulaceae family.
