Dad’s lighter and pack of Pall Malls
These are what he’d pull out of his pocket while talking to a co-worker at North American Aviation in the 60s. (back when cigarettes were ubiquitous!) With an equally beat up cigarette, he’d distractedly attempt to start the lighter without deviating from the line of conversation. He quit (actual) cigarettes in 1967 when he saw the absurdity of writing the names of successful graduates of a Red Cross smoking cessation program on certificates, with a cigarette at the drafting table.
