luna & her two

She labored steadily with quiet strength and rhythm much of the afternoon and then well into the evening without any visible progress before we decided to intervene. Chalk up another life experience and, for C, another skill: pulling lambs.

A neighbor came to help hold Luna while I ran interference i.e. helping position and hold her, with book in hand, searching for and reading passages about what to do when labor doesn't progress, about a cervix that won't dilate, and how to cope with different lamb presentations. Oh my.

Tomorrow, after some sleep, we'll weigh these two, but I'm guessing they're twice the size of the two born yesterday to Daisy. They were still nursing vigorously a little while ago when I came in after 1 a.m.

We're grateful for her patience with us, and I'm guessing she is equally so, in her own way, for the assistance.

Phew.

Good night.
