not armchair farmers anymore

He's right in there checking on the new lambs and their mama's milk supply, but still referring to the books.

Wouldn't you know it? She started showing signs of laboring not long after C had left for yoga class and to drop R off for hunter's safety class. At first, I thought it'd be fine without his being there, but then I started reading the book and getting the 'what ifs'. So I sent my mom and E after him, to pull him out of yoga - better sooner than later so we wouldn't interrupt savasana!

We also had our nephews with us for the evening so I was juggling the house and barn. When I went inside for just for a few minutes to serve up dinner to them, C returned home and headed out to the barn. Of course, the first lamb was born in those 5 minutes or so while no one was out there. After all the hullaballoo, she didn't require any intervention at all with the birthing.

.

Again this year, this ewe's milk supply is causing her teats to nearly drag on the ground so we're having to pin her in the corner and milk her off on one side a couple of times a day for a little while.

And again, one of the lambs is having a hard time figuring out where the milk is on his own so we're going out there and latching him on every few hours.
