solstice drumming
with the first day of summer came summer-like weather. finally!
had a small and impromptu gathering at the home of friends: potluck, horseshoes, catching up with folks we hadn't seen in some time, and drumming 'round the fire into the darkness.
this drum was made by a friend from the butt end of a huge cottonwood tree that grew on our place but that was just too close to the house for comfort - it grew just beyond the front walk, in the direction from which the strongest winds come. it was so very sad to see it go, circa 10 years ago, but at least it still exists in this form. i've slept much better during windstorms ever since, knowing it can't fall on our house.
