pops' day 2011
blue sky trail.
the last time we walked this trail was before e was born.
it was fall. r was about 7 months old and i wore him on my back.
our dog, grisman, was walking, obediently, close by my side.
c walked several paces ahead, hunting for grouse.
suddenly, he yelled out loudly, "HEY BEAR! GO AWAY BEAR!"
i looked up, beyond him, to see a big, BIG bear ambling down the trail, head down, towards us.
it looked up at us, took a sharp right, and headed upslope into the alder thicket.
there was a little rustling, and then nothing.
c pointed his 22 into the air and shot off a couple of rounds.
our dog (terribly frightened of thunder & gunfire) turned and beelined it back to the car.
then, we turned and followed.
and drove to another spot across the valley.
no need to stick around there any longer.
while we're not 100% sure, the bear was most likely a grizzly.
