goose family

3 of the 4 goslings survived their hatching out on friday.

the VERY moment she emerged from the nesting box with them, a raven came circling overhead and landed in the cottonwood trees above, scoping out the situtation, hoping for an easy lunch, i suppose.

that raven, hearing all the chicks in the coop, has been making our place part of its regular rounds during the past couple of weeks.

one day, outside the window i saw it fly off past with something white and rounded in its mouth so i went out and followed it to where it had alighted in a nearby aspen tree. it dropped it to the ground where i was able find it and pick it up.

it was a plastic toy golf ball from out in the yard!
