i called home at the end of my shift to see if they needed anything from town.

r said, "pops went to look at a wooly pig."

by the time i pulled in the driveway this little guinea hog was in the barnyard,

in trade for current and future deliveries of spent brewery grain.

now there is talk of a small breeding herd for charcuterie.

 

i changed into old snowboots to go see him, gather eggs,

and then e took me out into the field to see the spring run-off that he enjoys watching so very much.

it wasn't too many steps before i was up to my knees in a slush-filled ditch, boots filled with water. whoops.
