near dark

and nearing the trailhead.

me, my mind turning to mountain lions.

the further i fall behind,

the darker it gets,

the more boldly i sing:

"city sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style!....

..it's christmas time in the city!....ring-a-ling, hear them ring!..."
