Luz Village / Aldeia da Luz 15-03-10
In 2002 was inaugurated the New Aldeia da Luz, built from scratch two miles of the former, which was dismantled and largely submerged by the reservoir dam.
The ancient village of Luz, whose origin dates back to the Paleolithic and Neolithic period, was considered the most significant social impact of building the dam dam, now occupying an area of about 2040 hectares.
The New Village was built in the interest of maintaining the traits and property before, and also built a museum in order to perpetuate the memory of the old village and its people. A collection of ethnographic village, archaeological finds, the museum being provided with a temporary exhibition room.
The village is also equipped with a bullring, a Laundry public also has the role and viewpoint with a beautiful view of the Alqueva, counting also with the Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and a source replica of the Santa present in the old village was said to bring forth miraculous waters.
Throughout the area there are numerous archaeological sites from different periods, many of them made known through the construction of the dam.

A Luz é uma freguesia portuguesa do concelho de Mourão, com 50,90 km² de área e 373 habitantes (2001). Densidade: 7,3 h/km². Grande parte do território desta freguesia foi submerso pelas águas da albufeira da Barragem de Alqueva, a partir de 2002. Foi construída uma nova aldeia, para onde se mudaram todos os habitantes da Luz.
