School of Science & Management - Nepal
Before 1950 Nepal was a nation completely closed to outside visitors (for a variety of convoluted political reasons). At the time it opened up its borders to the outside world it had a literacy rate of about 6%. Today it is close to 70%. The people pictured here in downtown Kathmandu are of a generation that did not have the opportunity to benefit from schools such as the one being advertised here just above their heads (the Annapurna School of Science and Management). But each successive generation is seeing more opportunity for higher education that will hopefully allow them to enjoy the rewards that those opportunities may bring to their lives. They have made tremendous progress since 1950 and I wish them continued good fortune as they forge ahead trying to catch up in this rapidly changing world we live in.
