Spring Texas

Spring, Texas – Some new friends I made while visiting my sister in Houston for the Christmas holidays. Houston is the 4th most populous state in the U.S., so grazing areas for these new friends of mine are quickly disappearing due to urban sprawl. I’m witnessing the impact every year I visit. This scene is just a short walk from my sister’s house and although you can’t tell from the image, this space is nestled in the middle of new housing construction, congested roadways, strip malls, and fast food joints all just a short walk away. Pretty soon I’m guessing scenes like this will disappear completely from the suburban landscape here. It’s a shame because this type of imagery is what comes to mind when I think of Texas: open fields, big skies, and cattle. It’s nice seeing these rustic settings mixed in with the suburbs and I’ll miss it when it’s gone; but at least I’ll have my picture to remind me of what once was…
