Unknown type of Barb

This small fish looks and acts much like a cherry barb when it is immature. However when the males reach maturity they develop a brightly iridescent blue-green back and a color combination of red white and blue-green unlike any cherry barb I have ever seen. I have been unable to find description of any barb that matches the size and color combination of this particular fish. It looks a lot in shape to a cherry barb but cherry barbs are red sometimes bright red which is quite unlike the color combination of this fish. Also they are positively hyperactive, so much so that getting a good photograph is practically impossible unless you restrain the fish in some way. They move constantly and unpredictably and surprisingly seem to like the brightly lighted area of the aquarium. I don't know the origin of these fish as they were given to me as a present several years ago. This fish represents the sixth or seventh generation that has grown under my care, I wonder if it was captured in the wild or if it is a variety that died out. Unfortunately little information is available to see if the cherry barb has other variants that are not red,. The species is said to be on the verge of extinction in the wild but the Red List site that monitors the status of this species has not been updated since 1996 so it is unclear how this fish population has fared since then.
