Training?
While it was still dark this morning, we had an amazing collection of birds out by the pond.
All firsts for us were - a Great Crested Flycatcher sitting on a branch of the fallen-over willow, 10 Mallards...and....2 Great Blue Herons.
I didn't see the herons arrive, but I think this was a training flight. If you look at the picture below, you might agree that this bird is much smaller and has a very short beak. The big GBH only stayed for about 3 minutes.
Sorry about the awful pictures, but it was dark and I was once again shooting through the smudged windows.
