Bunnings Newspaper Advertisement - Stage 4 Lockdown
Newspaper advertisement by major Australian hardware chain Bunnings Warehouse during Stage 4 Covid lockdown in 2020 when most retail stores were forced to close except for online delivery and 'click and collect services'. Supermarkets, other food stores, pharmacies and petrol stations were exempt. Hardware stores were only permitted to have trade customers shopping in store during this period.
The state of Victoria and particularly the Melbourne metropolitan area had the longest and strictest lockdowns in 2020 and 2021 including night time curfews, travel limits from home and the shutting down of most retail except for supermarkets, fresh food convenience stores, petrol stations and take away meals.
Melbourne went through six major lockdowns:
• March 30 - May 12 2020;
• July 8 - October 27 2020;
• February 12-17 2021;
• May 27 - June 10 2021;
• July 15 - 27 2021; and
• August 5 - October 26 2021.
By mid 2021 support for lockdowns was waning with the electorate with a number of major anti-lockdown protests taking place in and around the Melbourne CBD.
