Socratease and associates -01

Farthest left, probable Intersex Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) with a pair of 'normal' Mallards near Michaelbrook Dog Park, Kelowna, BC.

When I first discovered her in December, I was persuaded, since she didn't have the orange and black bill so strongly associated with iDucks, that Socratease was likely an eclipse male. Were that the case, however, by now, she would have lost her other iDuck features, namely the green on the head and the side markings. I'm not certain what to make of this. IMHO, her bill is 'more orange and blackish' that the Mallard drake's in the photo above.

 

When I relocated her for this February shoot, like the other two Ducks I've been following (Homher and Muncie), I observed that she hangs on the periphery of a small flock, and seems tolerated by the others without actively interacting with them....
