Singing Northern Shrike -05 180307
(Lanius excubitor) Thomson Marsh, Kelowna, BC.
Finally from www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Shrike/overview:
• The oldest recorded Northern Shrike a female, and at least 8 years, 7 months old, when she was recaptured and rereleased during banding operations in Wisconsin.
We often see a NSHR here in the spring and fall. This is the fourth year for me.... Of course, there's no way to tell if this is Lil Butch from 2016 or the bird I photographed in 2017 in both winter and autumn.... All I know is that I felt deeply privileged that he accepted my presence and put on such a fabulous show. And, yes, I thanked him at the end....
