What's the difference between a 507 & a 508?

Merseyrail Electrical Multiple Units 507 027 & 508 126 are seen at Hall Road Station on the network's Northern Line to Southport. The 508 is headed towards Liverpool, the 507 to Southport.

In a bizarre coincidence I had only been discussing with a friend what the possible differences were between the 507's and 508's as we cycled towards Hall Road Station where we then found one of each sat in the station! So what what are the differences?

The 507s were built as 3 carriage sets for the Merseyrail system whilst the 508s were built as 4 coach sets for British Railways Southern Region. When the 508 were moved to Merseyrail one carriage was removed. They also have differing compressors because of this. The 508’s have 2 compressors whereas the 507's have just one that would not be capable of supplying 4 carriages with air.

In addition, the lighting circuits are designed differently. The lights go out when the train is not receiving DC power from the 3rd rail on the 508's whereas they are powered differently on the older 507's and don't go out.

One final difference is the design and layout of the cab.

I bet there are more knowledgeable folk out there to put me right where I have the differences incorrectly noted.
