Anno 1933: State Insurance Institution building on A. Mickevičiaus Street in Kaunas, Lithuania. August 15, 2025

The State Insurance Institution was built in 1933 in the quarter between the current Karaliaus Mindaugo Avenue (then Uosto Kranto Street) and Miško Street. Paradoxically, the sculptures in the upper part of the façade were not marked in the original project. Thus, in the end, the building became even more decorative than the criticized project.T ogether with the buildings of VMU Faculty of Medicina and the Health Insurance Funds, on the outskirts of the New Town, a complex of simultaneous buildings of considerable scale formed the street. In the 1930s, considerable attention was paid in Kaunas to the architectural harmony of the street layout and the aesthetics of the building. The façade was decorated not only with half-columns, but also with solid sculptural décor.
