Via del Corso with Littorio Library former bookshop and publishing house building in Rome, Italy. November 29, 2024

It is located along Via del Corso, in the stretch included in the Rione Colonna. It dates back to 1928, and probably consists largely of the restoration of an already existing building from the 16th century. The Libreria del Littorio was founded in 1927, as can be seen from the name, it was very close to the fascist regime, and was largely concerned with promoting Italian books abroad. It also had a branch in Milan, and among the printed works there was the periodical of the Young Fascists Il Tricolore.

The street's name has been Via Lata alreayd in the Middle Ages. In 1466 Pope Paul II, the Venetian Pietro Barbo, established the rules of horse racing and wanted the Carnival festivities to take place along this street from the Arch of Portugal to the Palazzo Venezia in which he resided: the toponym, then, changed to Via del Corso, with an obvious allusion to racing.
