Anno 1901: former Romanov's Bazaar, residential complex with shops at intersection of Avotu Street and Lāčplēša Street in city core of Riga, Latvia. June 27, 2023
Architect Eižens Laube (1880-1967). In the early 20th century Lāčplēša Street was called Romanov Street (family name of Russian Czars). The complex of buildings was built in the style of National Romanticism, but it is also a harbinger of Functionalism (Art Nouveau), typical forms of which are visible in the cubic structure of the corner towers. The architectural bureau of Eižens Laube was situated in the central building of the block.
